Project Description

Violence Prevention at Droryplatz

Client/Funding Agency:

Quartiersmanagement Richardplatz Süd / Bezirksamt Neukölln

Duration:
August 2012 – February 2014

Project Objective: The goal of the project was to establish Droryplatz as an educational site characterized by tolerance and respectful interaction on and around the square. This was to be achieved through a joint development of vision and strategic planning among the educational institutions located around Droryplatz. Additionally, the project aimed to strengthen cooperation and address current issues and conflicts that had arisen in and around the institutions at Droryplatz.

Initial Situation: Droryplatz was in a crisis situation, marked by aggressive children and adolescents, vandalism, and occasional violent incidents. There was minimal to no cooperation among the institutions, and there was a significant overlap between the public playground and the schoolyard of Löwenzahn School.

Process and Outcomes: In a facilitated process, the institutions at Droryplatz developed a new vision for the square and a strategic plan to achieve this vision. The focus was on constructive collaboration among the institutions and the development and implementation of sustainable measures for violence prevention with children aged 3 to 14.

Throughout the project, conflicts were addressed, and solutions were developed with significant commitment from the institutions involved in the workshops and monthly Droryplatz meetings. The relationship among the institutions greatly improved over the course of the project. Joint training sessions were held, a shared set of rules was developed, mutual resource usage was agreed upon, and a cooperation agreement was established, which provided the framework for developing a shared pedagogical stance.
